Love. See the BIGGER PHOTO

This peice was pattern inspired by key keeper. The idea came to me one day while driving, thinking about the matrix with binary code with numbers flashing moving up and down in the background. I know, weird right? I think I had seen the movie a couple weeks before or something and the idea just came to me. It didn't start with those words at first, it was actually going to be completely different, letters, numbers, random. A lot more abstract than what is there now.

Boom, life impact. My Great Uncle Herbie, the patriarch of my family passes away. During that time and still now, I think about the one thing that has held my family together and the bond which continues to hold us together, instilled by my uncle. Love. This piece was partly inspired by my Uncle, partly by my family and partly by Mr. Frank Sinatra's Song. Not really sure how I jumbled it all together. L- is for the way you look at me, O- is for the only one I see, V- is... (okay, I'm done singing).

This was one of my first paintings which was fully painted with brushes (no finger painting on this one kids), 2-inch, 3-inch, and fine point.

This painting was painted over about a 4 week period. Black glossy house paint (Disney edition) from home depot first on the 4 - 10 x 40's and then the Red Love with the 2-inch brush after being out drinking with some friends one night with some Liquitex plastic tubes. I thought I messed up, for the longest time, but after I started writing the words in white (again, Home Depot) with the fine tip, I thought it started to look that much better and I kept going.

The white words were the ones that took the longest, 3 weeks, finished on St. Patty's Day. A little Guinness, Jameson, Corn Beef, Cabbage and Potatoes, was a great way to finish a painting!

Color Wheel Mesh

This piece is by far one of my favorite pieces. It is an odd shaped canvas, 20 x 32. I had just bought over 150 canvases and this was the only canvas without a sister. When I bought the canvases, I managed to wheel the craigslister into a huge box of acrylics for a total of about $250.00, a steal! Inspired by prior roommate and fellow artist Michael Palza, I used a pour method, mixing my paints with water in small cups (whichyou can see in the photo). This took a very long time, as each color has to be mixed individually. After each color is poured, the next layers of colors goes on. Normally, I listen to music, usually Reggae when I paint, this one was done in total quiet.

The small details were done with drops of pour and then dots pressed with a toothpick. Most of the smaller details and spirals were designed with a toothpick. The colors in this one really pop and they ended up drying that way which was I love. The painting took about 1 week to dry in the garage. After it dried, I then put a gloss finish over it, which does make it shinier and adds to the flavor of the painting.
